Truth or Consequences, was once called Hot Springs, so named for the springs emanating from the 104 degree water table lying under most of downtown. From the 1920s, through the '40s, the Town thrived as a health spa resort, and many of the historic buildings date from that time. A number of bathhouses and spas offer private soaking tubs, and pools on an hourly basis.
Truth or Consequences has seen an influx of varied artists over the years, and the downtown area now boasts numerous galleries and workshops.
